The LifeCam HD-3000 L2 from Microsoft is a reliable, portable, affordable means of recording video, taking pictures, or web chatting on your computer. This compact webcam records in 16:9 Widescreen 720p HD, letting you capture vivid detailed recordings from your computer. It can also be used for video conferencing with Skype and Windows Live Messenger, allowing the person you're conferencing with to see you with complete clarity.
Plus, with the built-in noise cancelling microphone, the person you're conferencing with will hear you in crystal-clear audio. It can also take still photos at a resolution of 1280 x 800. The LifeCam is an excellent tool for recording podcasts and blogs, and for conferencing with colleagues or keeping in touch with friends and family. Rated 4 out of 5 by Rob the Rooster from Bang for your buck.
I bought this for skyping with family and it worked great with almost no set-up required. Because it is a Microsoft product, the moment I plugged it, Win 7 recognized and downloaded the latest driver for it. No restart required and I was skyping right away. Lens is fast enough so as to give proper exposure in not-so-bright conditions. Microphone works great. I talk as I am walking around in the room and the person on the other end has no trouble listening.
Only gripe was that I read the focus was manual somewhere but couldn't find any setting related to focus at all. That said, image looked fairly sharp. For video chat purposes, this camera is a no-brainer at a mere $. Rated 4 out of 5 by Kim C. From My Perfect Solution! I bought this to replace a more expensive Logitech camera when some sort of desktop resource conflict would boot me offline each time that camera was in use. LifeCam saved the day for the online video critique program I take part in.
The picture is very nice, the sound relays well without feedback, and the lighting seems to pick up more evenly than my previous cam, even in low light. While the LifeCam has no video zoom for better framing control (the only reason I give it 4 stars), it does swivel and maneuver enough on it's desktop screen mount to find a nice composition while conferencing.
I'm very happy with this tiny piece of awesome technology. And it's so good to be back in the game at a fraction of what I paid for the one that didn't work with my system! Rated 3 out of 5 by Russ45 from Makes computer slow This is a work in progress, but so far the camera is not very useable. I have a dual core Pentium and 4 GB RAM using Windows 10. Frame rate is listed as 30fps but is really 2fps and is too slow for my intended purpose, which is ShootOFF target simulator. I shut down everything and removed start-up programs, but that does not help. I will add more RAM and upgrade the processor to see if that is the problem, but this should have been stated in the requirements.
